Volcom was created with one major philosophy of the times in 1991, and that philosophy was based around "youth against establishment." This idea behind Volcom was inspired by its creators, Richard Woolcott and Tucker Hall. During the spring time of that year, Richard and Tucker went on a snowboard trip that changed their lives forever. With Tucker already unemployed, Richard also quit his job so the two could snowboard around the country and create their own clothing line based around the sports that they enjoyed. With some money borrowed from Richard's dad, the two begin to create clothing in Richard's bedroom that represented youth against establishment. Now, quite a few years later, Volcom's popularity has become worldwide and still represents youth against establishment through fashion, art, music, films, and athletes.
