Aloha from Indah. This beautiful piece of clothing is made from hand batik fabric. The art of batik is amazing. First a copper stamp of the design is made by hand. The silk is then hand dyed or hand painted the lightest color desired. Next the silk is laid on a small table in front of the artist. He dips the copper stamp into hot wax & stamps the design onto the silk. The wax is then allowed to dry. Now the silk is dyed again the darker color desired. Where the wax design seals the light color the the second darker color can not enter the fabric. Now the silk is dried to set the color and then boiled to release the wax. The silk is washed, softened and dried in the sun, all of this by hand.
